Movies Previews now will be blog-based, not videos with me talking. If you really miss that, for a small fee I’ll read this aloud to you on the phone. For a larger fee, I’ll mail you an 8-x-10 glossy of me.
"Won’t Back Down,” which says it’s based on a true story, tells about two women determined to make a public school a better place for children. Way to go, moms. It joins long line of inspiring movies on education, but despite a cast that includes Viola Davis and Maggie Gyllenhaal, I’d rather see “Goodbye Mr. Chips” one more time.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis play the same character at different times of his life in the movie “Looper.” That character is a time-travel assassin who discovers that the person he’s going back in time to kill … is himself. I like the premise, even though I’m not a particular Bruce Willis fan.
And speaking of actors I don’t like, Adam Sandler stars as Dracula in the movie “Hotel Transylvania.” But since it’s only his voice, maybe I can tolerate him for 90 minutes. Dracula has invited all his buddies, like the mummy and Wolfman, to his hotel to celebrate his daughter Mavis’ birthday. The hilarity ensues when a regular person – think Marilyn of the Munster family – shows up and takes a shine to her. It sounds like it’s something to keep me entertained until Tim Burton’s “Frankenweenie" opens next weekend.
