Merry Grease-mas
I did not know until Wednesday (thanks, @paulisded) that Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta had reunited for a Christmas album. AND a video that gives a nod to their appearance in “Grease.”
I’m not going to run out and buy it.
I have an unfortunate fondness for “Grease.” I like any show where the “teenagers” are in their 20s and 30s. Stockard Channing was 33 when she filmed this, for pete’s sake. And looked every year of it.
I couldn’t sleep for a while this morning, and I started thinking about this Christmas album. Wouldn’t it sell better if they had combined the holiday tunes with “Grease” songs?
The first combination I came up with was “You’re the One that I Want in a Manger.”
Then, “Look at Me, I’m Santa Baby.”
Followed by “Hopelessly Devoted to Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Greased Lightnin’ ” and “Rudolph, the Beauty School Dropout.”
OK, they were funnier at 4 a.m. But if the album “Grease Bells” ever comes out, I get a share of the royalties.
