Almanzo Wilder’s homestead claim
This link might interest fans of Laura Ingalls Wilder. It is a document filled out by a neighbor of her future husband, Almanzo, verifying that he spent the required five years on a claim in Dakota Territory.
My favorite answer comes in Question 8, when the neighbor is asked if it would be better to mine the land than farm it.
“No. No. No.” the neighbor replies. I know farmers like that.
