Snopes is my bible

Columnist Carolyn Hax asked this question Wednesday: When you receive a mass email that contains erroneous information, do you correct the sender?

In other words, when someone sends you an email that falsely claims President Obama will receive a $20 million a year pension for as long as he lives, do you call them on it, generally by sending back the Snopes.com link that refutes it?

Guess what? You probably will not be stunned to learn I respond. Always. Sometimes with an apology for pointing out their fallacy, sometimes not.

Although I have to say, I rarely get those emails. I do see them ALL THE TIME on Facebook. And when I add the Snopes link in the comment, I will helpfully tell the person to defriend/unfriend/block me if they so choose.

Does that make me a nice person? No, not really. But like Popeye, I yam what I yam.
