Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

Although I would never own anything but a rescue animal, I am a sucker for the annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, where some beautiful animals get to show their stuff.

When I had a Shih Tzu, Alex and I would watch it together and cheer for his siblings. He, of course, never went in for the long coats because he was not a foo-food dog.

Now that I have a Lhasa Apso mix and a Spitz-Corgi around the house, I have more breeds to cheer for.

This year, two new breeds have been added to the show: The Russell Terrier and the Treeing Walker Coonhound (Walker is a family name; it doesn’t mean he walks everywhere).

Jack Russell Terriers — like Moose, who played Eddie on the TV show “Frasier” — apparently are NOT a breed. But Russell Terriers are. I would have sworn I saw Jack Russell Terriers on earlier shows, but obviously I am once again mistaken. (You can see both breeds here.)

Reminder: The dog show will air Feb. 11 and 12. I’ll probably remind you about 30-eleven times before then.
