Numbers on plastic
I am a dedicated recycler, although sometimes I do wonder if it makes any difference (I sometimes feel like no matter what I do, it all gets dumped in the same place anyway, and I know how tricky recycling glass can be).
So I took note of this story about the numbers stamped on plastic items. Not just to make sure I recycle everything I can but because of what it says about safety.
I doubt people will stay away from No. 1 plastics, especially since they’re so recyclable. But I need to burn 2, 3 and 5 into my brain to make sure the plastic is the safest it can be (I’ve quit frozen dinners, but I’ve got a long way to go to reach my goal of healthy eating).
I also quit heating take-out/leftover food in Styrofoam, but it’s good to have a reminder. I’d forgotten about plastic wrap not covering food in the microwave now, so it’s time to start reaching for the paper towels.
