Three movies to share with you for the weekend:
Dark Skies stars Keri Russell, who also can be seen on television in “The Americans,” and Josh Hamilton (I need to look him up. The name is familiar, but I’m afraid the face may be too bland to be memorable**). It’s the story of parents who fight to keep their child from being abducted by aliens from outer space. The usual kind of problem facing parents, you know.
Dwayne Johnson stars in Snitch as a businessman whose son is scheduled to spend 10 years in a federal prison. That might be better than being abducted by aliens, but it’s still an unpleasant thing to have happen. The movie stars lots of good people: Susan Sarandon, Barry Pepper and Benjamin Bratt. If they chip in and buy my ticket, I’ll go.
Your third option comes from Cinema Falls. It’s A Royal Affair, one of this year’s nominees for best foreign films at Sunday night’s Oscars. It’s matinee only, with a social hour at 2 p.m. and the movie at 3 .m. at The Icon Lounge. It’s the story of a “passionate and forbidden romance.” Stop there: You had me at passionate.
* I’m actually writing this on 2/21. But typing 2/22 is much cooler.
** I was right; he IS kind of bland. But Josh Hamilton is also the name of a baseball player, and believe it or not I think that’s who I was thinking about. What can I say? Sports is my life.
