Movie previews 3/7

Three new movies will be here this weekend, with one having only one showing.

Dead Man Down stars Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace in a movie with a title that sounds like a mix of Dead Man Walking and Black Hawk Down. Instead of a capital punishment / military mission in Somalia mashup, though, it’s the tale of two strangers, a desire for revenge and a lot of violence. Despite the violence, I’m hopeful. Pleeeeeeeease let it be good.

And speaking of that, there’s a comment on YouTube.com that sums up nicely — but profanely — how I feel about Oz the Great and Powerful. Paraphased, it says simply, “Disney, please do not (mess) this up.I love The Wizard of Oz, flying monkeys and all, and I’m so looking forward to a funny, gorgeous film that takes me back to the Emerald City.

Your one-showing only option is courtesy of Cinema Falls. The documentary A Place at the Table  looks at hunger in the United States, land of the underfed and the obese. Take a little time to feed your brain.
