Veronica Mars movie

As much as I loved “Veronica Mars” the television show, I had no idea that a KickStart campaign to fund a Veronica Mars movie would be so successful.

The goal was to raise $2 million. As of this afternoon, $3.75 million has been pledged by fans.

I’m not one of them, although if anyone doesn’t want their Veronica Mars the Movie T-shirt, I’ll take if off your hands (that’s one of the benefits you get for pledging $25).

The most you can pledge (and receive something) is $10,000. For that you get a speaking role in the movie, and yes, someone has agreed to pay that much.

If you want to be a backer, there’s only one $5,000 pledge left open. And that’s the one I want, even more than the T-shirt. Because for $5,000, “At this price point, we will rent out a theater in your home town — or a town near you — and have a screening for up to 50 guests. We’ll do our best to schedule the screening before the theatrical release of the film. Worst case — the first week of the theatrical run. You’ll also receive the signed movie poster, the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, the digital download of the movie, the T-shirt and a pdf of the shooting script.”

Wouldn’t it be fun to have a private screening?

The $400 pledge also have availabilities for seven more backers. For that “A cast member of your choice (Kristen excluded) will record up to a 20 second personalized video greeting for you. You can decide what the message will say within the bounds of good taste. Remember, these could be floating around YouTube for eternity. Our cast members have to be comfortable with what they’re saying on camera. You’ll be sent this as an mpeg. You’ll also receive a signed movie poster, a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, a digital version of the movie, the limited-edition T-shirt and a pdf of the shooting script. The cast members choices are Keith, Logan, Wallace, Weevil, Mac, Dick and Piz.” Like anyone would choose Piz.

This is what you get for $10: “You’ll be sent a pdf of the shooting script on the day of the movie’s release. Read it or remain unspoiled, the choice is yours. Additionally, you will receive regular updates and behind-the-scenes scoop throughout the fundraising and movie making process.” That disappoints me. Why would you want to give the whole plot away?
